Three MWC Teams In Final Volleyball Top 25 Colorado State ranked 10th.
Dec. 20, 2001
Colorado Springs, COLO. - The Colorado State University volleyball team was ranked 10th in the final USA Today/AVCA Division I Coaches poll, followed by Utah at No. 15 and BYU at No. 22. The Rams, which finished the season with a 29-4 record and a trip to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, have ranked in the final USA Today/AVCA poll four of the last five years. The Utes closed the season at 25-7 after the school's first-ever trip to the Sweet 16 where they lost to eventual national champion Stanford. The Utes were the only team in the NCAA Tournament to take a game from the Cardinal, losing 3-1. The Cougars finished the year with a 20-9 overall record and have been in the final USA Today/AVCA poll 18 of the last 19 years.
The MWC, one of only five leagues to send at least four teams to the 2001 NCAA Tournament, had three teams ranked in the final poll for the second straight year. Prior to the past two years, the last time three current MWC teams ranked in a final volleyball poll was 1990 (BYU, New Mexico, San Diego State).
