THE MWC IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT - REGIONALS Friday, Dec. 12 No. 14 seed Colorado State (30-4) at No. 3 seed Florida (33-1) Colorado State and Florida will meet for the third time in series history this week in Gainesville, Fla, with the series knotted at 1-1. The third-ranked Gators clinched their 11th automatic berth into the postseason tournament after winning the Southeastern Conference Tournament. The Rams completed a 17-0 run this season through MWC opponents, posting a 14-0 mark in conference play and a 3-0 mark in the conference tournament, to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. After defeating George Mason and No. 25 Maryland in the NCAA first- and second rounds last week, CSU now has a school record 23 straight victories. This is the ninth straight and 15th overall trip to the NCAA Tournament for Colorado State and the Rams are 15-14 all-time. Florida defeated Georgia Southern and Central Florida to advance to this year's Sweet 16 field. The Gators have made 14 trips to the NCAA Tournament. THE MWC IN THE NCAA In the first five years of the league's existence, four teams (BYU, Colorado State, San Diego State, Utah) have earned invitations to the NCAA Tournament with three advancing to the Sweet 16. Colorado State made its fourth Sweet 16 appearance in the last five years this season. Overall, BYU has made it to the NCAA's 21 of the past 23 years including this year's bid. Utah has six straight NCAA appearances, while CSU made its ninth straight appearance this season. Overall, the MWC has an 18-14 record (including 2003) in NCAA Tournaments since the league was formed in 1999, including an 11-4 mark in first round NCAA Tournament matches. NCAA TOURNAMENT NOTEBOOK
Colorado State is among the top 16 seeds which advanced to NCAA Regional play Dec. 12-13 ... No. 2 seed Hawai`i, No. 3 seed Florida and No. 9 seed Nebraska will host three of the four regionals, while Long Beach, Calif., will host the fourth site ... CSU junior setter Melissa Courtney recorded double-doubles in each of the Rams' first two NCAA Tournament matches, giving her seven this season and 15 for her career ... Courtney had 47 assists and 10 digs vs. George Mason and 47 assists and 11 digs vs. Maryland ... CSU sophomore Andreya Downs hit .553 with 24 kills in the Rams' first two wins in the NCAA Tournament ... Utah All-America candidate Kim Turner totaled 37 kills and hit .449 in the Utes' two NCAA Tournament matches ... BYU sophomore Lexi Brown hit .450 in the Cougars' two NCAA matches.
