Colorado State Advances to Sweet Sixteen in NCAA Volleyball Tournament Rams defeat Kansas State 3-1 before third-largest crowd in school history.

FORT COLLINS, COLO. (December 3, 1999) - The No. 11 Colorado State women’s volleyball team (30-2) advances to the Sweet sixteen of the 1999 NCAA Volleyball Championship after defeateing No. 19 Kansas State Friday 15-12, 8-15, 15-13, 15-10 in front of 2,500, the third largest crowd of the season. Senior Catie Vagneur led the Rams with 20 kills on 11 errors to finish with a .173 hitting percentage, including 11 digs. Sophomore Courtney Cox finished with a .231 hitting percentage while recording 19 kills and two block solos. Sophomore Angela Knopf recorded 18 kills on 31 attempts including eight digs. Junior Summer Jennings dominated the Rams defense with a career-high 16 block assists and one block solo. Junior Krista Swartzendruber recorded a career-high 11 block assists and seven digs. The Wildcats jumped to a quick 3-0 lead in Game 1 before the Rams battled back to finish with 10 errors to Kansas State’s 14. In Game two, the Rams led 10-7, holding the Wildcats to one point while scoring five straight for the win. Tied at 9-9 in Game 3 the Rams outscored the Wildcats six to four to swing the momentum in favor of the Rams heading into Game 4. The Rams forced 11 Kansas State errors in Game 4 and finished with a .385 hitting percentage. With a 14-10 lead Vagneur forced the sideout which led to a Swartzendruber/Jennings block assist to close out the match and advance the Rams to the Sweet Sixteen. Sophomore Liz Wegner was the Wildcats top threat with 28 kills on 66 attempts, 16 errors and 12 digs, finishing with a .182 hitting percentage. Senior Dawn Cady compiled 27 kills and 12 digs. The Rams set a new season-high with 22 team blocks to Kansas State’s eight.
The Rams will face the winner of the Arkansas and Long Beach State
match in the Sweet Sixteen. Long Beach will face Arkansas in Long Beach
on Saturday, Dec. 4.
