Mountain West Conference Announces Volleyball Player of the Week
Dec. 1, 2008 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah outside hitter Lori Baird has been named Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the fifth time this season. Baird, a 6-foot-1 Murray, Utah, product, was named the Most Valuable Player of the 30th annual Pacific Bankers Classic after leading the 21st-ranked Utes to a pair of non-conference wins over Nevada and Pacific last weekend in Stockton, Calif. She opened the tournament with 11 kills on 19 swings and one attack error (.526 hitting percentage) to go along with four blocks and three digs in a 3-0 sweep of Nevada. Against Pacific, Baird led the way with 10 kills and a match-high nine blocks. She hit .320 for the match with just two errors in 25 attempts as Utah defeated the Tigers, 3-1. For the week, Baird averaged 3.00 kills, 1.86 blocks, 0.57 digs and 3.93 points per set, while hitting .409 (21-3-44).
