COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Committee announced today the field for the 2002 Women's Volleyball Championship and Mountain West Conference members Colorado State and Utah were among the 64 teams.

The top 16 teams were seeded nationally and placed within four regions. The teams tabbed as the top seeds were Southern California, Stanford, Nebraska and Northern Iowa. Team pairings were determined by geographical proximity, with the exception that teams from the same conference were not paired during the first and second rounds.

Colorado State, which advanced to the Sweet 16 each of the past three seasons, makes its 14th overall and eighth straight NCAA appearance. The Rams, 13-13 all-time in the Tournament, will travel to the Central Regional in Honolulu, Hawai`i for first and second round action. Colorado State will face Washington (19-10, 9-9) in the first round on Dec. 5 or 6. The winner of the Rams vs. Huskies match will face No. 6 seed Hawai`i or Western Kentucky in the second round.

Utah will be making its fifth straight NCAA Tournament appearance after earning the MWC automatic bid by winning the conference tournament for the second straight year. Utah, 5-4 overall in NCAA Tournaments, travels to the West Regional in Los Angeles, Calif., for the first and second rounds and will open play vs. Texas A&M (21-9, 13-8) on Dec. 6 or 7. No. 1 seed Southern California or San Diego would face the winner of the Utes vs. Aggies match in the second round.

The Big Ten and Pacific-10 led all conferences with eight teams selected. The Big 12 placed five, and the Big West and Atlantic Coast conferences each placed four teams in the field, followed by Conference USA, West Coast and Western Athletic conferences with three apiece and the Big East, Mountain West and Southeastern conferences with two.

The regional finals will take place Dec. 12-15 at sites to be determined after first and second rounds. The Final Four will be held in New Orleans, La., Dec. 19 and 21.
