COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado State University, the 2011 Mountain West volleyball regular-season and tournament champion, will face the University of Oregon in the First Round of the 2011 NCAA Volleyball Tournament. The Rams earned the league's automatic bid to the tourney and are the only MW team in this year's national postseason event.
CSU will play Oregon (21-9) at 5 p.m. HT (8 p.m. MT) on Thursday, Dec. 1 for the opportunity to face the winner of Western Athletic Conference champion Hawai'i (29-1) against Big Sky champion Northern Colorado (22-8) in the Second Round of the Honolulu sub-regional. All First and Second Round matches will be played at Stan Sheriff Center on the campus of the University of Hawai'i-Manoa. The winner of the Second Round match on Friday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. HT (10 p.m. MT) will advance to the Honolulu Regional, also hosted by Hawai'i.
Colorado State, under the direction of head coach Tom Hilbert, is making its 17th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and 23rd overall. The Rams finished the regular season 23-5 overall and 12-2 in conference play. CSU picked up a big non-conference win early in the season on Friday, Sept. 2 with a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over then-No. 5 Nebraska at Moby Arena.
Colorado State has advanced all 13 seasons since the Mountain West formed in 1999. Six of the eight league institutions have advanced to the NCAA Division I Tournament at some point in program history with five advancing as a Mountain West member.
