PROVO, Utah -- BYU middle blocker Lindsy Hartsock was honored this week for her success both on the court and in the classroom as she was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team, becoming BYU's first volleyball Academic All-America honoree since Amy Steele Gant in 1997.

"I'm truly honored by this recognition," said Hartsock, who joins elite company as one of only five BYU volleyball players who have received Academic All-America recognition. "Academics have always been important to me. I have a great support system here at BYU with great professors, coaches and administrators that has really enabled me to be successful."

Hartsock has been a key contributor to BYU's success this season as she has been named to two all-tournament teams while leading the Mountain West Conference in hitting percentage and earning All-MWC recognition. She is also ranked nationally in hitting efficiency.

The 6-foot-4 junior from Inkom, Idaho, is double-majoring in public health and home and family living and has a 3.60 grade point average.

"This is a wonderful recognition for Lindsy's commitment to excelling as a student-athlete," said BYU head coach Jason Watson. "Her accomplishments in the classroom are equally as important as her contributions to the success of our team on the court."

Hartsock also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII First Team honors this season, marking her second Academic All-District award.
