Turner Named Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week Freshman middle blocker led Utah to wins over Weber State and Denver.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Freshman middle blocker Kim Turner from Utah was named the Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, marking the first time she has earned the award. A native of Chandler, Ariz., Turner helped Utah to wins over Weber State (14-16, 15-3, 19-17, 15-5) and Denver (15-3, 15-9, 15-6) last week. The MWC Freshman of the Year totaled a match high 22 kills and nine blocks in the four-game win over Weber State, and picked up a match-high 11 kills and five blocks in the sweep over Denver. For the week, Turner racked up 33 kills (4.71 kpg) and 14 blocks (2.0 bpg) while hitting .422 (33k-6e-64a). Turner is currently sixth in the MWC for hitting percentage (.298) and blocks per game (1.20).
Utah, one of three Mountain West Conference teams in the NCAA Tournament, will travel to Honolulu, Hawai`i to face Texas Tech in a first round matchup on Thursday. BYU, a No. 3 seed, hosts Hofstra Friday in Provo, Utah, and No. 2 seed Colorado State hosts Radford Friday in Fort Collins, Colo.
