Utah's Turner Named MWC Volleyball Player of the Week Junior garners weekly honor after leading Utes to MWC Tournament Championship.
Nov. 25, 2002 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah middle blocker Kim Turner was named Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, marking her eighth overall award. A 6-2 junior from Chandler, Ariz. (Dobson HS), Turner earned Most Valuable Player honors at the Mountain West Conference Championship last week after leading the Utes to a 3-0 record and their second straight tournament title. She hit .348 with 11 kills, three digs and six blocks in an opening round victory over Wyoming and added 12 kills, six digs and nine blocks in a sweep of No. 2 seed San Diego State. In the championship, Turner led the Utes to a sweep over BYU with a .542 hitting percentage, 16 kills, six digs and three blocks. Turner was also named MVP at last year's MWC Championship.
For the week, Turner averaged 4.33 kills per game, 1.67 digs per game and 2.00 blocks per game, while hitting .342.
