MWC Volleyball Player of the Week MWC Tournament MVP Melissa Courtney honored.
Nov. 22, 2004 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado State senior setter Melissa Courtney earned Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, marking her second honor of the season and her career. Courtney, a Lakewood, Calif., product, led the No. 2 seed Rams to the Mountain West Conference Championship last week, and was named Tournament MVP, beating New Mexico, BYU and 19th-ranked Utah. She recorded a season-high six kills in nine attempts (.667 efficiency), with a team-high 39 assists vs. the Lobos in the quarterfinal round of tournament play, followed by posting 57 assists and putting down six more kills against BYU in the semifinals. In the championship vs. Utah, Courtney recorded 37 assists, along with five digs and five kills for a .714 hitting percentage. For the tournament, Courtney averaged 13.30 assists, 1.70 kills, 2.20 digs and 0.30 blocks and blocks per game, while hitting a combined .660 (17-0-26) in the three matches.
