THIS WEEK IN THE MWC The race for second-place in the conference race will be determined this weekend. No. 20 BYU (22-4, 11-3 MWC) and Colorado State (17-7, 11-3 MWC) are currently tied for second in the league, with UNLV (18-9, 9-6 MWC) in fourth. Wyoming kicks off conference play by hosting TCU on Thursday. The Cougars vs. the Rams highlights Friday's schedule, with UNLV and San Diego State and Utah at Air Force also slated. The BYU/CSU match will be televised by the mtn. and shown via tape delay on Monday, Nov. 20 at 9 p.m. MT. The conclusion of the regular season pits the Cougars at the Falcons, New Mexico at Wyoming and Utah at Colorado State on Saturday, Nov. 18. MWC QUICK HITS BYU -- No. 20 BYU went 2-0 last weekend, beating Nevada, Reno in a non-conference match and Wyoming in league play...With their two 3-0 wins last week, 16 of the Cougars' 22 wins on the season have been sweeps...Junior Chelsea Goodman leads all active MWC players with 31 career double-doubles which is tied for fourth all-time in league history...The Cougars finished the 2006 regular season with a 12-1 home record...BYU has a 20-1 home record over the last two seasons. COLORADO STATE -- The Rams went 1-1 in conference play last week, beating San Diego State in five games and losing to UNLV in five games...Freshman Katelin Batten tallied her 300th career dig at San Diego State and now has 333, which is 12th on the CSU single season charts...She tallied 49 digs in the two matches last week, posting career-highs each night...The Rams have eight players with 10 or more service aces this season, marking just the fifth time in school history that feat has been accomplished...Sophomore Ashley Fornstrom posted a career-high 68 assists vs. UNLV, giving her 2,282 for her career, which moves her into seventh in CSU history...Freshman Tessa Nelson recorded her 100th block of the season against UNLV becoming just the seventh freshman in school history to tally 100 or more blocks in a season. NEW MEXICO -- New Mexico swept TCU in its only action on the week...Freshman Rose Morris recorded her fifth double-double of the year (12 kills, 12 digs) vs. the Horned Frogs, tying her for the team lead with sophomore Sarah Kwasigroch...Kwasigroch finished with 41 assists, seven digs, two blocks and two aces...Senior Kelly Therkelsen was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District team for the third consecutive year last week...Therkelsen placed on the second team for the second straight year. SAN DIEGO STATE -- San Diego State went 1-1 last week. losing a five-game match to Colorado State and sweeping Air Force...Senior Melanie Greene led all players with 22 kills and added 14 digs to record her 11th double-double of the season vs. the Rams...The 22 kills was a career high...Senior Audra Dent had a match-high 15 kills vs. Air Force... She also had six blocks, two digs and an assist while hitting a match-high .619 over the three games...The Aztecs held the Falcons to an opponent season-low .000 hitting percentage...Junior Aime Cordeiro had 32 digs on the week, giving her 1,247 for her career, which is currently third place all-time in the SDSU record books...She needs just 122 to move into second. TCU -- TCU was swept by New Mexico in its only action last week...Senior Anna Vaughn became the all-time career leader in service aces, picking up three vs. the Lobos...She now has 137 career aces, surpassing Tori Barlow's career mark of 136...Vaughn was selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI first team, marking the second time in her career that she has been honored as an academic all-district performer...Junior Emily Allen and freshman Lauren Otto had 10 kills apiece vs. the Lobos...Senior Calli Corley had a match-high 16 digs. UNLV -- UNLV went 2-0 at home last weekend, sweeping Air Force and defeating Colorado State in five games...The win over the Rams was UNLV's first vs. CSU at home since 1999...The Rebels secured the fourth seed in next week's MWC Volleyball Championship in Las Vegas...With its 3-0 sweep over the Falcons, UNLV has now tallied 11 wins by that margin on the season...The school record for sweeps is 12 set by the 1998 squad...Overall the Rebels are 11-5 in three-game matches this year. UTAH -- No. 9 Utah beat Wyoming. 3-1, in its only action on the week...The Utes claimed their first outright MWC regular season title thanks to their win over the Cowgirls, plus Colorado State's loss at UNLV Sunday night...Junior Emillie Toone had a career-high 17 kills vs. Wyoming, hitting .469 in the process...Freshman Sydney Anderson finished with her second career double-double vs. the Cowgirls, recording 64 assists and 19 digs (both career-highs)...Junior Whitney Webb and sophomore Airial Salvo also had double-doubles vs. Wyoming...Utah has now won 21 straight matches, which trails only the 2003 Colorado State team for the most consecutive wins by a MWC team since the inception of the conference in 1999...The Utes finished their home schedule with a perfect 12-0 record, marking the second time in the program's history that Utah has gone undefeated at home...Utah's 79 kills vs. the Cowgirls was a team season-best. WYOMING -- Wyoming went 0-2 in MWC play last week, losing to No. 9 Utah and then 21st-ranked BYU...Freshman Annie Meyers had 11 kills and a career-high 19 digs vs. the Utes, marking her 10th double-double of the season...Junior Rachel Smith is currently in eighth place on the all-time program kill list with 1,064...She is just 10 kills shy of seventh place...Sophomore Samantha Eley currently has 47 career service aces, which is third in the WYO career record book...She needs just three aces to take over second place and 13 for the all-time mark.
