COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado State junior libero Katherine Whitney earned Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week honors, marking the first weekly award of her career.

Whitney, a Boulder, Colo., native, led the Rams a 2-0 conference record last week, including a five-game upset over first-place and No. 16 BYU. Against the 16th-ranked Cougars, she served a career-high six aces (the second highest ace total in the MWC this season), while tallying 20 digs and receiving 47 of CSU's 112 receptions with just one error in the process. She also collected four assists vs. BYU. With Colorado State ahead of BYU, 1-0, and game two tied at nine apiece, Whitney served one of her aces which started a nine-point serving run as the Rams went on to win the second game 30-23 for the 2-0 lead. Against second-place Utah, she collected a career-high 27 digs and had just one reception error in 39 attempts. Whitney also chipped in four assists and a service ace. Her 27 digs is the second highest four game total and fourth-highest total overall in CSU school history and is tied for fifth on the all-time MWC conference match list.

On the week, Whitney averaged 5.22 digs and 0.78 service aces per game, while totaling eight assists. Of her 87 serve receptions, 31 were first swing kills for the Rams (35.6 percent). Her back-to-back 20 digs matches were the first for a CSU player since 2002 (Lindsey Kerr), and she currently has 339 digs on the season which ranks 11th in school history on the single-season charts.
