MWC Volleyball Co-Players of the Week
Utah's Airial Salvo and Wyoming's Andrea Seele share weekly honors
Nov. 7, 2005 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah outside hitter Airial Salvo and Wyoming middle blocker Andrea Seele earned Mountain West Conference Volleyball Co-Players of the Week. This is the second award of the season and career for Salvo, while Seele earned the first weekly award of her career. Salvo, a 6-0 freshman from Farmington, Utah, led the Utes to a sweep over No. 12 and previously undefeated BYU last Friday in Salt Lake City, snapping its 20-game winning streak in the process. Against the Cougars, she had a team-high 15 kills in hitting .371 (15-2-35), while narrowly missing a double-double with nine digs. Salvo also tallied three total blocks (two solo) and three assists. She also knocked down the game-winning kills in games two (30-28) and three (30-23), respectively. The win over BYU helped Utah maintain second-place in the MWC standings. Seele, a Johnstown, Colo., native, helped the Cowgirls to a 2-0 record in conference play last week, with wins over San Diego State and UNLV. She hit a season-high .636 vs. the Aztecs on Friday, with a season-best 14 kills and no errors on 22 swings. Seele also had three total blocks and three digs in Wyoming's sweep of SDSU. She followed with 14 more kills on 31 attempts in a four-game win over third-place UNLV on Saturday. Seele also collected two total blocks (one solo, one assisted), three digs and a service ace vs. the Rebels. On the week, she averaged 4.0 kills per game for an efficiency of .491, while totaling six digs, five total blocks and a service ace. Seele currently leads the team in hitting percentage (.273) and total blocks (62), and is second on the team in kills per game (2.30). The Cowgirls' two wins last week moved them from eighth into seventh in the league standings heading into the final two weeks of the regular season.
