Wright Digs Setting Up Aztecs After Floor Rolls The San Diego Union-Tribune Feature Story
Nov. 6, 2002
By Bill Dickens SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior Melissa Wright brings distinct meaning to "all-around floor game." If she can see it, she believes she can reach it. Dig it or set it, Wright takes to Aztecs women's volleyball with physical vitality equal to that of any football player on campus. "I've broken pieces of bone off my hips and elbows from diving on the floor," the 5-foot-9 setter from Muncie, Ind., says. "People say to me, 'Gee, that looks like it hurts,' " adds Wright, who has been playing volleyball since the third grade. "But I don't even bruise anymore. I take an ice bath after a match and I'm fine."
