COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico sophomore outside hitter Jeanne Fairchild earned Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week accolades, marking her first career weekly honor. This is also the first player of the week honor for a New Mexico volleyball player since the inception of the MWC in 1999.

Fairchild, an Albuquerque, N.M., native, helped the Lobos to a 1-1 record in conference play last week, including a 3-1 upset win over 18th-ranked BYU. The win over the Cougars was the first for UNM since 1995. Against BYU, Fairchild put down a career-high 24 kills and a career-best 11 digs, marking her first career double-double. She added one solo block and two service aces vs. the Cougars. In a four-game loss to ninth-ranked and league leader Utah, she recorded 21 kills, eight digs and two total blocks. With her 21 kills vs. the Utes, Fairchild became just the fifth player this season (third player in the league) to tally 20 or more kills vs. Utah, one of the nation's top defensive teams.

On the week, Fairchild averaged 5.62 kills, 2.38 digs, 0.38 blocks per game, while hitting .277, which is over .100 points over her season average. She accounted for 6.12 points per game for New Mexico.
