MWC Volleyball Player of the Week Colorado State's Katie Jo Shirley-Cahoon honored
Nov. 1, 2004 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado State senior middle blocker Katie Jo Shirley-Cahoon earned Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, marking her third career weekly honor. Cahoon, from Hayden, Idaho, helped the ninth-ranked Rams remain just one match behind No. 17 Utah in the MWC standings with shut out wins over San Diego State and UNLV, as well as a non-conference win over Denver. She hit over .200 points higher than her season average on the week as she put away 28 kills in 48 attempts. Cahoon was hitting .385 entering last week's competition. She totaled nine kills, six digs and four total blocks vs. the Pioneers on Tuesday, and followed with nine more kills, six digs and six total blocks, while hitting .562 against the Aztecs. Against the Rebels, she hit .643 and recorded her second double-double of the season with 10 kills and 11 digs. She also tallied four total blocks (one solo) and three service aces vs. UNLV. For the week, Cahoon hit .591 (28-2-44) and averaged 3.11 kills, 2.56 digs, 1.56 blocks, 0.56 service aces and 0.22 assists per game, while committing only three hitting errors in her last four matches. She notched her 300th career block assist vs. SDSU and now sits at 308 (355 total blocks), placing her ninth on the CSU career block assists chart. Cahoon also leads the conference in hitting percentage with a .406 efficiency rate (218-45-426).
