Mountain West Conference Signs McLeodUSA As Volleyball Championship Title Sponsor Tournament to be played November 16-18 at Colorado State University.
Nov. 1, 2000
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. The Mountain West Conference and McLeodUSA announce the continuation of their corporate partnership through the 2000-2001 academic year. McLeodUSA (Nasdaq: MCLD), based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is one of the nation¹s top telecommunications providers. As the "Official Telecommunications Provider to the Mountain West Conference," McLeodUSA becomes the title sponsor of the women¹s volleyball championship, an official online sponsor of the Mountain West Conference website and an overall sponsor of all MWC championship sports. "We have had a great relationship with McLeodUSA since the early stages of our development, and we are very pleased to enter into another sponsorship venture," said MWC Commissioner Craig Thompson. "This agreement provides the foundation to promote one of the premier volleyball conferences in the nation alongside one of the leaders in the telecommunications industry." The McLeodUSA Mountain West Conference Volleyball Championship, which will be played November 16-18 at Colorado State University, features three of the nation¹s top teams in No. 3-ranked Colorado State, No. 16 BYU and No. 20 Utah. BYU captured the inaugural regular season Mountain West Conference championship last season, while Colorado State won the conference tournament championship. All eight MWC members will participate in a single-elimination championship at the 8,745-seat Moby Arena in Fort Collins, Colo. The champion earns an automatic bid to the 64-team 2000 NCAA Tournament. "McLeodUSA is proud to be again supporting women's collegiate athletics and higher education through our title sponsorship of the Mountain West Conference Volleyball Championship," said Robert Hatch, group vice president for the western region of McLeodUSA. "These premier athletes deserve our support as our way of saying how proud we are to be serving the business telecommunications needs of the Mountain West region." "We could not be more excited about the continuation of our partnership with McLeodUSA," said Dan Butterly, assistant commissioner for marketing at the Mountain West Conference. "The support McLeodUSA gives to our women¹s championships is tremendous."
