Oct. 29, 2000

Nina Puikkonen led BYU with a match-high 12 kills as the 16th-ranked Cougars swept No. 3 Colorado State 15-1, 15-4, 15-11 in Provo Saturday. The Cougars held CSU to a season-low -.021 hitting percentage while snapping the Rams 19-match win streak in the process. Colorado State was second in the nation coming into the match, hitting .323 as a team. Jackie Bundy totaled 10 kills and hit a career-high .769 for BYU, while Courtney Cox led CSU with 11 kills. With the win over the Rams, BYU has now defeated a No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 team this season. BYU defeated then-No. 1 Stanford on Sept. 8 and then-No. 2 Long Beach State on Sept. 9.

The Cougars, now in sole possession of second-place in the MWC standings, posted a four-game win over Wyoming Friday. BYU¹s Sunny Tonga hit a season-high .679 to go with a match-high 20 kills, while teammate Nina Puikkonen belted 18 kills. BYU hosts Utah in a critical MWC match Friday, Nov. 3.

Rams Bounce Utes

Courtney Cox led the Rams with 16 kills and a .467 hitting percentage as Colorado State swept Utah for the second time this season on Friday. The Rams outhit Utah .333 to .109. Utah¹s unfamiliar starting lineup may have been a factor vs. CSU. Ute starter McKelle Stilson did not play, and Alisa Geddes saw limited action. The Rams moved to 23-1 and stretched its win streak to 19 matches before falling to BYU the next night.

Utah bounced back for a four-game win over Wyoming Saturday as Lenka Urbanova posted her fifth double-double of the season vs. the Cowgirls with 10 kills and 13 digs. Utah¹s Jen Snow-Richards totaled a match-high 14 kills and a .619 hitting percentage.

Rebels Win Back-to-Back Matches

Leiana Oswald totaled 28 kills for UNLV in a pair of conference wins as the Rebels posted their first conference sweep of the season with wins over New Mexico and Air Force last weekend. Patricia Assuncao and Amber Graham each recorded double-doubles for the Rebels vs. UNM Friday, and four players each had 15 kills in the match vs. Air Force Saturday.

Aztecs Win Third Straight

Nicole Akporiaye led San Diego State with a stellar weekend as she totaled 27 kills and hit .345 in wins over Air Force and New Mexico. Including the weekend sweep, SDSU has now won nine of its last 11 matches. SDSU¹s Amy Hallquist picked up her fifth double-double of the year vs. the Lobos.
