MWC Weekly Court Notes Eight conference matches slated this week

UTAH MAINTAINS MWC LEAD BYU and Colorado State start the week off in non-conference action on Tuesday.
QUICK HITS BYU -- With their five-game victory over Notre Dame last week in the Smith Fieldhouse, the Cougars currently hold the league's best overall home winning percentage mark at .837 (380-74). Sophomore Lindsy Hartsock put up 19 blocks in two matches last week, including tying a career-high with 12 against the Fighting Irish. She now averages 1.85 blocks per game on the season which ranks No. 2 in the nation. As a team BYU leads the MWC in blocks per game in conference matches (3.54). Individually, Hartsock leads the league in hitting percentage (.416) and blocks per game, while junior Lauren Richards' 0.53 service aces per game is tops in the MWC. Colorado State -- Junior Tess Rogers recorded her 1,000th career kill against Air Force on Saturday. She currently has 1,016 career kills, which ranks 13th on the school career charts. Senior Melissa Courtney also made history against the Falcons, recording her 4,000th career assist. She now stands at 4,023 assists for her career which is fourth on the MWC career list. CSU has won its last 43 matches against unranked opponents, with its last loss coming to Washington in the 2002 NCAA Tournament. Colorado State has been ranked in the top-10 nationally for six of the first eight weeks this season. The school record for most weeks in the top-10 in one year is 15, set by the 2000 team. New Mexico -- The Lobos are currently third in the MWC with 3.11 blocks per game in conference matches. Their 22.5 team blocks against No. 17 Utah on Oct. 2 stands as the most by a MWC team this season. Junior Chelsea Sondrup, the UNM all-time leader in block assists with 274, is currently seventh on the school charts in total blocks with 290. She is 36 blocks behind Linda Archuleta's school record of 326. Sondrup is tied for fourth in MWC matches in blocks with 1.39 per game. Junior Nicole Ryan leads the Lobos and is ninth in the Mountain West with 3.27 kills per game. In conference matches, she is seventh with 3.39 kills per game. San Diego State - Freshman Aime Cordiero is currently second in the MWC in digs per game in league play (4.36). Since returning to the lineup on Sept. 21 from an abdominal injury, senior Kara Moriarty is averaging 3.56 kills per game and two digs per game. Moriarty is the lone returning Aztec starter from the 2003 season. UNLV -- UNLV hit a season-high .422 as a team in a 3-0 win over San Diego State on Friday. Freshman Maria Aladjova knocked down 18 kills against the Aztecs, marking her ninth straight match and 17th match overall on the season that she has had double figure kills. UNLV has won three straight MWC matches for just the third time since joining the MWC. The Rebels have also swept three straight conference opponents for the first time since joining the league. Utah -- The 17th-ranked Utes' school record winning streak of 12 matches came to an end with a 3-0 loss to Notre Dame last week. Utah is still riding a 13-match conference win streak. Senior Liana Bortoto led the Ute attack last week, turning a team-best 10 kills against the Fighting Irish and a career-high 19 kills against BYU. Her 4.83 kills and 3.5 digs per game average on the week bettered her season averages of 2.67 and 1.89, respectively. Senior Lyndsey Henderson currently ranks sixth in the nation in blocks per game (1.76). Wyoming -- Senior Amy Doman recorded 100 assists last weekend, moving her to 4,591 for her career. She needs just 176 more assists to take over first-place all-time at Wyoming. Senior Jill Roslund tied her career-high of 21 digs for the second time this season against Air Force on Saturday. She has recorded double-digits in digs five straight matches and currently leads the team with a 3.52 per game average. Senior Sara Maytorena moved into fourth place all-timein the Wyoming record book in career service aces with 104. She also currently has 1,281 career kills which is fifth all-time. The Cowgirls' road wins over New Mexico and Air Force last week was the first time that Wyoming has swept a road trip in MWC play since the 2001 season.
