15th-ranked Colorado State Sweeps Eighth-ranked BYU Denver Post Staff & Wire Services
Oct. 23, 1999
Oct. 23 - FORT COLLINS - The Colorado State women's volleyball team got one of the biggest wins in school history Friday night when the 15th-ranked Rams swept No. 8 Brigham Young 15-8, 15-13, 15-6 at Moby Arena. The Rams got the win in front of a crowd of 4,112, the largest crowd at a volleyball match in Fort Collins since 1986, and the seventh-largest in school history. "I would like to thank the crowd for coming out to help us beat this very good team," CSU coach Tom Hilbert said. Sophomore Angela Knopf led the Rams (18-1, 5-1 Mountain West Conference) with 17 kills, and Catie Vagneur and Courtney Cox each added 15. "We served very well, and we sided out well and gave ourselves some opportunities," Hilbert said. "We were prepared well for some of the things they do. Our ability to touch the ball and convert digs into points was big. We feel our outside hitters are as good as anyone in the league." Hilbert said he was especially impressed with the play of Cox. "Courtney Cox matured to a whole other age level tonight," Hilbert said. The win was a good rebound for the Rams, who lost their first game of the season last Saturday to UNLV. CSU started the season with a school-record 17 straight wins. The win was the 22nd straight at Moby Arena, dating to last season. BYU fell to 14-3, 5-1. CSU hosts Utah on Satruday at 7 p.m. at Moby Arena.
