Air Force's Koons Chosen Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week Senior blocker leads Falcons over Lobos in conference action.
Oct. 18, 1999
Colorado Springs, Colo. Senior middle blocker Summer Koons from the Air Force Academy has been chosen the Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week after leading the Falcons to victory in their only action of the week. AFA improved to 14-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play. Historically, Air Force owned only three total victories over Mountain West Conference opponents entering the year. Already this season, the Falcons have claimed two MWC wins, including Friday night's sweep over the University of New Mexico. Koons drilled a match-high 18 kills with just two errors in 30 swings to register a season-high .533 attack percentage. She also had a hand on a match-best seven blocks, including three solos. This 18-kill performance is the second-highest total for Koons among her eight double-figure-kill outings this season. Her three solo blocks ties a season-high, while her seven total blocks marks the ninth time this year that she has registered at least six blocks in a match. A native of Longview, Wash., this is the first-ever conference player of the week honor for Koons and is the second selection for Air Force this season.
