THIS WEEK IN THE MWC MWC QUICK HITS BYU -- No. 18 BYU defeated Wyoming in five games last Thursday in Laramie, Wyo...The Cougars set new MWC team records for block assists (61) and total blocks (30.5) vs. the Cowgirls...The block assist total is also a new Cougar record, while the total block mark is second all-time in BYU's history...Junior Erica Lott and senior Lindsy Hartsock also tied the league conference match mark for individual block assists with 14 apiece...In the individual conference rankings, BYU holds the top two places in three categories...Sophomore Rachel Dyer and Hartsock rank first and second in hitting percentage, while Lott and junior Chelsea Goodman are 1-2 in kills, and Lott and Goodman are first and second, respectively, in points. COLORADO STATE -- Colorado State went 2-0 in league play last week...The Rams have won seven straight matches, dropping only two games during that span (one at Wyoming and one at San Diego State)...Overall, CSU has won its last 11 matches against unranked opponents...Sophomore Ashley Fornstrom has recorded a double-double in four of the last five matches...She leads the team in service aces and is second in blocks...Freshman Tessa Nelson sits in ninth place on the school freshman blocks chart with 77...Fellow freshman Katelin Batten is currently ninth in CSU's freshman record book with 255 digs and needs just 45 more to break the freshman record of 270 (set by Nalani Yamashita in 1992). NEW MEXICO -- The Lobos went 0-2 last week, including a conference loss at TCU and a non-conference loss to New Mexico State...New Mexico's loss to the Aggies extended their losing streak to five matches, its longest since the 2004 season...Sophomore Sarah Kwasigroch dished out a team-high 26 assists and had a team-best .400 hitting percentage vs. NMSU...Senior Kelly Therkelsen is just five block assists away from becoming only the second Lobo in the history of the program to post 300 block assists and 300 total blocks...Therkelsen is currently second in the UNM record books for career block assists and fifth in career total blocks. SAN DIEGO STATE -- San Diego State swept Air Force and lost to Colorado State in four games last week...Senior Melanie Greene recorded her team-leading eighth double-double of the year vs. the Falcons with 11 kills and 11 digs...Senior Audra Dent had a career-high 15 digs vs. CSU...Junior Aime Cordeiro collected 37 digs last week...She now has 1,026 digs for her career, which makes her only the seventh Aztec to ever accumulate over 1,000 digs for a career...Cordeiro continues to lead the MWC in digs per game (5.55), which ranks 26th nationally. TCU -- TCU went 2-0 last week, beating New Mexico and Texas-Pan American...Junior LeMeita Smith led the Horned Frogs with 11 kills vs. the Lobos...She has led TCU in kills four of the last five matches...TCU hit a team season-high .402 (49-8-102) vs. UTPA, including a .536 efficiency in game one. UNLV -- UNLV went 1-1 last week, losing at Colorado State and sweeping Air Force...UNLV finished the first half of conference play with a 5-3 record, which matches its 2005 conference mark through the first half of the league play...With their sweep of the Falcons, the Rebels have now won nine matches by 3-0 margins. UTAH -- No. 10 Utah went 2-0 last week, defeating Utah Valley State in non-conference play and Wyoming in league play...Sophomore Lori Baird tallied a five-game school record 13 block assists vs. the Cowgirls, breaking the record of 12 set by Emillie Toone vs. Colorado State last season...The Utes amassed 5.38 blocks per game last week, which helped hold their opponents to a .076 hitting clip...They had 16 team blocks vs. UVSC, which was a three-game season-high, and 27 in five-games vs. the Cowgirls, which was a season-best for five games...Utah is averaging 3.90 blocks per game on the season, which leads the MWC and ranks first in the nation...Toone returned to form last week, leading the team in blocks with a 2.50 per game average, bouyed by a 14 total block effort vs. Wyoming...She also collected 13 kills on .423 hitting (13-2-26)...Toone leads the nation in blocks per game (1.90). WYOMING -- Wyoming lost back-to-back five game matches to then-No. 19 BYU and then-No. 12 Utah last week...Senior Andrea Seele led the Cowgirls with a season-best 18 kills vs. the Cougars, followed by junior Angie Hellbaum's career-high 17 kills and junior Rachel Smith's 13 kills...Smith followed with a 21 kill, 14 dig effort vs. Utah...Sophomore Tasha Weishahn tallied back-to-back double-doubles last week...She had 10 digs and 49 assists vs. the Cougars and 11 digs and 48 assists vs. the Utes.
