MWC HEADS INTO SECOND HALF OF CONFERENCE PLAY
The MWC heads into the second half of conference play this week with No. 21 Colorado State (13-4, 7-1 MWC) holding on to first-place in the standings. UNLV (15-3, 6-2 MWC) took sole possession of second-place thanks to a four-game victory at New Mexico (14-6, 5-3 MWC), who is now tied for third with BYU (13-5, 5-3 MWC). TCU (17-7, 4-4 MWC) and Utah (7-10, 4-4 MWC) are tied for fifth-place in the league standings, while San Diego State (11-8, 3-5 MWC), Wyoming (8-9, 2-6 MWC) and Air Force (7-15, 0-8 MWC) round out the conference rankings.
WEEK NINE PREVIEW
This week's conference schedule includes seven matches and is highlighted by two televised contests. Thursday's BYU at No. 21 Colorado State match will be shown via tape delay on CSTV, Sunday, October 21 at 6 p.m. MT, while Friday's San Diego State at UNLV affair will be shown live on The Mtn. starting at 7 p.m. PT. Both matches will be featured nationally on the Sunday, October 21 edition of CSTV's AVCA Match of the Week, starting at 3 p.m. MT on CSTV.
New Mexico plays at Wyoming and Air Force hosts TCU in other Thursday matches, followed by New Mexico at Air Force and TCU at Wyoming Friday. Saturday's lone MWC contest will feature the 21st-ranked Rams hosting Utah.
MWC VOLLEYBALL TO BE FEATURED NATIONALLY ON CSTV'S AVCA MATCH OF THE WEEK
The Mountain West Conference will have four teams featured to a national audience on the Sunday, October 21 edition of CSTV's AVCA Match of the Week, Sunday, October 21. Both matches will be shown tape delayed on CSTV, starting at 3 p.m. MT with San Diego State at UNLV. The second match of the double-header pits BYU at No. 21 Colorado State at 6 p.m. MT.
The San Diego State at UNLV match will broadcast live on The Mtn., Friday, October 19 at 7 p.m. PT, while the Cougars' and 21st-ranked Rams' match will be played on Thursday, October 18 at Moby Arena in Fort Collins, Colo.
BYU'S CHELSEA GOODMAN TIES ALL-TIME MWC DOUBLE-DOUBLES RECORD
BYU senior outside hitter Chelsea Goodman posted her 47th career double-double as part of a triple-double
(21 kills, 12 blocks, 11 digs) in the Cougars' five-game victory over Utah on October 13, moving into a tie for first-place on the all-time MWC list.
Goodman, who currently has 13 double-doubles this season, needs just one more to take over all-time conference leader Michele Rauter's (Wyoming, 2000-03) total of 47.
NEW MEXICO'S GAYLE TRIPP JOINS 1,000 DIG CLUB
New Mexico junior Gayle Tripp became just the ninth MWC player to break the 1,000 career dig threshold on October 13 vs. UNLV. Tripp's 10th dig of the match gave her 1,000, as she finished with 23 total digs on the evening. She currently has 1,1013 career digs, which ranks eighth on the all-time UNM career list and ninth on the MWC career charts.
