BYU ONE OF FIVE UNDEFEATED TEAMS IN THE NATION BYU is one of only five undefeated teams in the nation as of Tuesday, Oct. 11. The 16th-ranked Cougars (13-0 overall, 6-0 MWC) join No. 1 Nebraska, No. 2 Washington, No. 6 Louisville and New Orleans* as the only teams yet to lose a match on the season. Included in the Cougars 11 wins on the season is a 3-2 upset victory over No. 14 Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, on Sept. 17. BYU also has wins over Kansas and Nevada, Reno, which were both ranked higher than BYU in the top-25 poll at the time.

*The University of New Orleans is currently 4-0 on the season. Due to Hurricane Katrina, the remainder of the Privateers schedule has been cancelled.

MWC IN NON-CONFERENCE PLAY The MWC has 60 wins over non-conference opponents, including victories over two ranked teams. So far this season, BYU has defeated then-No. 14 Ohio State and Utah has beaten No. 17 Santa Clara. The Mountain West has a record of 455-330 (.580) all-time in non-league action.

MWC IN THE NCAA STATISTICS The MWC is represented in the national statistics by four of its nine insitutions. Colorado State is currently third in blocks per game (3.79), 13th in assists per game (15.16) and 25th in kills per game (16.27). No. 16 BYU is tied for first in win-loss percentage (1.000) and 17th in hitting percentage (.280), while Utah is 10th in blocks per game (3.37) and TCU is ranked 6th in service aces per game (2.49).

Individually, BYU's Lindsy Hartsock is second in the nation in hitting percentage (.469), Colorado State's Dre Downs is 8th in blocks per game (1.76) and BYU's Lauren Richards is 21st in assists per game (13.04).

SAN DIEGO STATE'S CORDEIRO AND WYOMING DIG NEW RECORDS San Diego State sophomore Aime Cordeiro set a new MWC all-time single-match record with 35 digs vs. UNLV on Friday, Oct. 7, surpassing Wyoming freshman Carissa Lee's record of 34 digs set earlier this season on Sept. 3 vs. Northern Colorado.

Wyoming set the MWC all-time single-match record for digs with 106 vs. Northern Colorado on Saturday, Sept. 3. The Cowgirls' mark broke BYU's record of 102 set on Nov. 23, 2001 vs. Cal Poly.

QUICK HITS
AIR FORCE -- Air Force posted an 0-2 record in conference play last week, losing to New Mexico and TCU in four games...The Falcons are 0-6 in conference play this season and have lost 20 consecutive league matches overall...Freshman Kristina Stewart tallied six serivce aces vs. New Mexico, which was one shy of the Air Force Division I single-match record, set by Delavane Diaz in 2003...With 172 kills this season, senior Rebecca Gallegos is just six shy of matching her kill total (178) from the previous two years of her career, combined.

BYU -- BYU went 2-0 in MWC play last week, sweeping Colorado State and Wyoming...The Cougars are now 13-0 which ties their best start to a season since 1987 where they also started 13-0...They are one of five remaining undefeated teams in the nation...BYU is ranked 16th in the current USA Today/CSTV Top-25 Poll...The Cougars swept CSU in Fort Collins last Friday for the first time since 1988...Junior Lindsy Hartsock hit .636 vs. Wyoming, the seventh match this season which she has hit .500 or better...She is currently second in the nation in hitting percentage (.469)...Sophomore Erica Lott has recorded double digit kills in every match this season.

COLORADO STATE -- CSU went 1-1 last week, losing to 16th-ranked BYU, 3-0, and defeating Utah in five games...With their win over Utah last Sunday, the Rams are now 3-0 vs. the Utes on CSTV...The Rams beat the Utes in their regular-season meeting in 2004, the 2004 MWC Championship match and Sunday's match...Senior Dre Downs became just the 12th player in Ram history to record double figure blocks in multiple matches in the same season with her 11 against Utah last Sunday...She has tallied at least seven blocks in all five conference matches and in six of the last seven matches overall...Senior Tess Rogers moved into the top-five in career kills in MWC matches last weekend. She currently has 577 kills in league matches, surpassing Wyoming's Michelle Rauter (2000-03) for fifth place.

NEW MEXICO -- New Mexico went 2-0 in MWC play last week, beating Air Force and TCU...With the two victories, head coach Kelley McKee notched her 11th win of the season which is her highest win total in her four years as the Lobo head coach...Five UNM players had at least 10 kills vs. the Falcons last Wednesday...Junior Kelly Therklesen hit a team-best .444 and had five digs, four blocks and two service aces vs. TCU last Saturday...Freshman Sarah Kwasigroch had 55 of the Lobos' 59 assists vs. the Horned Frogs.

SAN DIEGO STATE -- The Aztecs lost, 1-3, to UNLV last Friday...Sophomore Aime Cordeiro had a career-high and MWC single match record 35 digs vs. the Rebels...She leads the MWC in digs with an average of 5.11 per game...In MWC play, Cordeiro averages 5.07 digs per game which also ranks first...Junior Audra Dent tallied a career-high 22 kills vs. UNLV, surpassing her previous career-best mark by eight kills...SDSU setters Kristen Castillo and Leah Lathrop are averaging a total of 12.50 assists, 0.43 service aces and 2.76 digs per game...Castillo totaled 33 assists vs. UNLV and now has 1,330 for her career, which ranks 10th in the all-time record books.

TCU -- TCU went 1-1 in conferene play last week, beating Air Force in four games and losing to New Mexico in five...Freshman Nirelle Hampton recorded her first career triple-double with 41 assists, 15 digs and 11 kills vs. Air Force, while sophomore Talaya Whitfield set a new career-high in aces with seven...Hampton also had a career-high 55 assists vs. the Lobos...With 94 assists last week, freshman Nirelle Hampton currently sits at 699 for her career which is sixth place all-time in the TCU record books...She needs 61 assists to move into fifth place all-time.Junior Anna Vaughn currently leads the MWC in kills per game (4.01) and service aces per game (0.54), fifth in hitting percentage (.321) and eighth in blocks per game (1.09).

UNLV -- UNLV defeated San Diego State, 3-1, last Friday in Las Vegas...The Rebels have won a season-best three straight and five out of their last six overall...Junior Lauren Miramontes has led the UNLV attack during its three match win streak, averaging 4.54 kills per game and a .398 hitting percentage...She also has five service aces, eight digs and 11 blocks (one solo) during the streak...Sophomore Jada Walker collected 15 digs vs. the Aztecs, giving her 676 for her career...She needs 26 more digs to move into sixth-place on the all-time UNLV digs charts...Freshman Melody Nua currently leads the team and is second in the MWC in assists per game (773 total, 11.63 per game)...She also had 49 kills (0.78 per game), 17 of which have come in the last three matches, and 29 blocks (0.46 per game) on the season, which is fourth on the team.

UTAH -- Utah went 1-1 in MWC play last week, defeating Wyoming, 3-1, and losing to Colorado State, 2-3...The Utes held the Cowgirls to a .063 hitting efficiency, the lowest for a Utah opponent this season...Senior Shelly Sommerfeldt had a career-high 20 digs vs. the Cowgirls last Friday...She led the team in digs on the week, averaging 3.00 per game in two matches...Sophomore Emillie Toone had a career-high 13 kills, with a career-best 12 total blocks, while hitting a team-best .400 vs. the Rams on Sunday...Her 12 block assists vs. CSU ties a school for block assists in a five-game match...Toone is averaging 1.62 blocks per game over her last four matches...Freshman Airial Salvo recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 15 kills and 13 digs vs. Colorado State...She has now reached double figure kills in seven out of the last eight matches.

WYOMING -- Wyoming went 0-2 in MWC play last week...The Cowgirls were led by Rachel Smith's 14 kills and 14 digs vs. the Utes last Friday...Lauren Scott and Andrea Seele both tallied 10 digs vs. Utah...Freshman Carissa Lee had 10 digs vs. the Utes...She now has collected double digit digs in 12 of 14 matches this season...Lee is currently fourth in the MWC in digs per game (3.78)...Freshmen Samantha Eley and Tasha Wieshahn, and sophmore Michelle Weydert each rank in the top 10 in the MWC for service aces per game...Eley ranks third (0.49), while Wieshahn is eighth (0.41) and Weydert is 10th (0.40).
