Utah's Lori Baird Named CVU.com National Volleyball Player of the Week
Oct. 7, 2008 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah outside hitter Lori Baird has been named CVU.com National Volleyball Player of the Week for Sept. 29-Oct. 5. Baird, a 6-1 senior from Murray, Utah, led Utah to a 3-0 record, including conference wins at TCU and New Mexico, last week. In a non-conference match vs. Weber State, Baird had 11 kills, a match-high five blocks, four digs and one assist. She only had one hitting error in 20 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage vs. the Wildcats. Against TCU, she totaled a match-high 14 kills, five blocks, two digs and one assist. At New Mexico, Baird notched her second double-double of the season with 21 kills and a season-high 10 blocks. She hit .447 (21-4-38) in four sets vs. the Lobos, while also tallying four digs. For the week, Baird averaged 4.18 kills, 1.82 blocks, 0.91 digs and 5.23 points per set with a .420 hitting percentage (46-9-88). Baird is the third MWC student-athlete to be named national player of the week by CVU.com since the inception of the Conference in 1999, and is the first-ever Utah player to be tabbed national player of the week.
