MWC Volleyball Player Of The Week Colorado State's Mekana Barnes earns first career weekly honor.
Sept. 4, 2007 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado State junior middle blocker Mekana Barnes has earned Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the first time in her career. Barnes, a Highlands Ranch, Colo., native, led the Rams to a 2-0 record, including an upset victory over then-No. 13 Ohio State, and the tournament title at the Hilton Classic last weekend in Fort Collins, Colo. Against the Buckeyes, she tallied a career-high hitting percentage of .526 (12-2-19) while also collecting eight total blocks (one solo, seven assisted) in CSU's 3-0 sweep. Barnes followed with another career-best efficiency of .609 in Colorado State's 3-0 victory over Pacific. She had a match-high 16 kills in 23 attempts (two errors) vs. the Tigers, with six total blocks, two digs and 20.5 total points for the match. For the week, Barnes averaged 4.67 kills, 2.33 blocks, 0.50 digs and 0.50 service aces per game. She also accounted for 6.67 points per game in six total games.
