Colorado State's Courtney Cox Named MWC Volleyball Player of the Week Junior leads 13th-ranked Rams to 4-1 start.

Colorado Springs, Colo. Junior outside hitter Courtney Cox from Colorado State was named the Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, marking the first time this season and the second time overall Cox has earned the award. A native of Longmont, Colo., Cox helped the Rams to a 2-1 record at the USBank Tournament in Lincoln, Neb., last weekend. Colorado State defeated Georgia (15-9, 15-4, 15-2) and Northwestern (15-6, 15-10, 15-3) in straight sets before falling to host and No. 6-ranked Nebraska in four games (15-7, 7-15, 13-15, 13-15). Cox was named to the all-tournament team after racking up 46 kills in three matches, including 30 kills vs. Nebraska to tie a Mountain West Conference four-game match record. She also set a junior- and four-game match conference record for attempts vs. the Huskers with 70 en route to a .343 hitting percentage (30k-6e-70a). For the tournament, Cox hit .286 to go with 20 digs, seven total blocks and four service aces. A second team All-MWC performer in 1999, Cox garnered Most Valuable Player honors at the NACWAA State Farm Classic the previous week after leading the Rams to upsets over No. 9 Florida and No. 1 UCLA to win the championship. She hammered 19 kills in the semifinal match vs. the Gators and notched a double-double vs. the Bruins with 24 kills and 15 digs.
For the season, Cox is hitting .265 and leads the team with 89 kills (4.68 per game).
