MWC Volleyball Player of the Week BYU's Bryn Porter earns second career weekly honor.
Sept. 2, 2008 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU outside hitter Bryn Porter earned Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, marking her second career weekly honor. Porter, a 5-11 senior from Camarillo, Calif., led the 20th-ranked Cougars to a 3-0 record and the tournament title, while being named Tournament MVP at the BYU Molten Classic. She led the Cougars in kills in all three matches, starting with a 10-kill performance vs. Utah State. Porter also had a career-high five total blocks, while hitting at a .348 clip vs. the Aggies. Against Tulane, Porter collected 15 kills, nine digs and had another career-best blocks outing (6.0). In the tournament's championship match vs. Missouri, Porter tallied her first double-double of the season with career-highs in kills (19) and digs (16). With BYU trailing 15-14 in the decisive fifth set, her cross-court kill sparked a 3-0 run that sealed the Cougar victory. For the week, Porter averaged 3.67 kills, 2.33 digs, 1.17 blocks and 0.33 assists per set. She also accounted for 4.42 points per game in 12 total sets.
