Cordeiro Named To Preseason All-Conference Volleyball Squad

SDSU tabbed to finish fifth in league's preseason poll

July 25, 2006

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State libero Aime Cordeiro has been named to the 2006 all-Mountain West Conference preseason team. The junior from nearby Santee, Calif., returns after a season in which she led the conference in digs per game (4.71) and set a new MWC mark for digs in a match (35). Cordeiro was a member of the 2005 all-conference squad.

The Aztec volleyball team has been picked to finish fifth in the Mountain West Conference preseason poll. A voting panel including the league's nine head coaches and selected media chose BYU and Utah as the co-favorites to win the 2006 MWC regular season title.

In its previous seven seasons in the MWC, SDSU has finished from fourth to sixth on six occasions including last year's fifth-place final standing. The Aztecs' best showing was a second-place finish in 2002.

San Diego State opens its 2006 season on Friday, Aug. 25, against Cal State Northridge at 7:00 p.m. in Peterson Gym. That match is the second contest of the Aztec Invitational which also includes Hofstra and University of San Diego.
