Air Force Trio Earns MWC Scholar-Athlete Honors All three selections were sophomores during the 2008 season.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Three members of the Air Force volleyball team earned Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete honors, the league office announced this afternoon (June 24). Sophomores Jessica Hellmann, Caroline Kurtz and Nichole Stilwell represented the Academy on the volleyball list. It is the second straight year that Kurtz and Stilwell are on the Scholar-Athlete list, while Hellmann is making her first appearance. Kurtz leads the trio with a 3.86 grade-point average in systems engineering management. Stilwell, a 2008 CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree, holds a 3.71 GPA in mathematics, while Hellmann has a 3.61 GPA in English. The MWC Scholar-Athlete Award is the highest academic honor bestowed by the conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.
