USAF ACADEMY, Colo. -- One tournament and eight Mountain West Conference matches highlight the home portion of the 2007 Air Force volleyball schedule, which was recently released by head coach Penny Lucas-White. The Falcons, who will play 31 regular-season matches overall, will host 12 teams at the Academy's Clune Arena.
The season begins with tournaments during each of the first four weekends. The Falcons open the 2007 campaign on Friday, Aug. 24, with the Air Force Invitational. The Falcons' two-day tournament includes programs from AlcornState, Bucknell, ChicagoState and PortlandState. Air Force hits the road for a tournament at service-academy rival Army on Aug. 31-Sept. 1. In addition to facing tournament host Army, the Falcons will also face Quinnipiac and Marist on the West Point campus.
Air Force returns to the East Coast for the Gardner-Webb Invitational in Boiling Springs, N.C., on Sept. 7-8. There, the Falcons will face Davidson, North Carolina A&T and host-program Gardner-Webb. Air Force closes out the tournament schedule on Sept. 14-15 at the Prairie View Tournament in Houston, Texas. Air Force will play Texas-San Antonio, Texas-Pan American and Texas Southern, before ending the weekend with host school Prairie View.
The Falcons open the Mountain West Conference slate on Tuesday, Sept. 11, as it hosts Wyoming in a mid-week match-up. Conference action gets into full swing on Sept. 20-21, as the Falcons head to New Mexico and TCU, before closing out the month at the Academy on Sept. 28-29 against league powerhouses Utah and BYU.
The month of October begins with road trips to San DiegoState and UNLV (Oct. 4-6). Air Force concludes the first half of the conference schedule with a home match against ColoradoState on Oct. 11. The Falcons will travel to Chicago, Ill., on Oct. 13, for a non-conference tilt with ChicagoState - its only match out of league play since mid-September.
The second rotation of conference schools begins at the Academy (Oct. 18-19), when TCU and New Mexico visit Clune Arena. The Falcons will travel to BYU and Utah during the weekend of Oct. 26-27, before closing out the home slate with UNLV and San DiegoState on Nov. 1-2. Single matches at Wyoming (Nov. 9) and Colorado State (Nov. 12) wrap up the regular season.
The MWC Volleyball Championships are slated for Nov. 21-24 in Las Vegas, Nev.
