LAS VEGS - The UNLV Rebel volleyball team traveled to Houston, Texas on Saturday, April 15, and left with the Silver Bracket Championship in the Texas Tornado Spring Tournament. The Rebels were one of more than 20 squads to head to the Lone Star State for some spring action.

The Rebels were placed into pool play with the Texas A&M and Louisiana Tech. UNLV suffered a loss to Texas A&M by a 2-0 margin (30-28, 30-27), but fought back for a 2-0 win (30-24, 30-27) over Louisiana Tech.

With their 1-1 record, the Rebels were slotted into the Silver Bracket and won three straight matches for the championship. UNLV began with a 2-0 victory (30-27, 30-27) over USC, who was the #5 seed in the 2006 NCAA Tournament. They advanced to play Mountain West Conference rival New Mexico and won 2-0 (30-25, 30-15). The win over UNM placed the Rebels into the championship match against Alabama. The Rebels were too much for the Crimson Tide, who qualified for the 2006 NCAA Tournament, as UNLV won 2-0 (30-18, 30-24).

UNLV concludes its spring slate with a stop in Northridge, Calif., at the Cal State Northridge Tournament on Saturday, April 28.
