#1 BYU Holds Off #8 TCU For 3-0 Win The Cougars move on to Friday's semifinals.

For the TCU-BYU Photo Gallery, click here In the Mountain West Conference Volleyball Championship quarterfinals, the BYU Cougars (24-2), the 21st-ranked and top seed in the tournament, had to stage a rally in game three to hold off the #8 seed TCU Horned Frogs (16-18) in a 3-0 contest. The Cougars won the match with scores of 30-21, 30-21, 30-28. With the win, BYU advances to Friday night's semifinal match against either the #4 seed UNLV Rebels or the #5 seed San Diego State Aztecs. BYU cruised through the first two games knocking down 30 kills and six errors to take a 2-0 lead, but had six miscues in the third game alone. The Cougars needed a late rally to come back from a 10-point deficit (20 to 10) in the third game. TCU held the advantage for most of the third, until BYU rattled off 19 of 27 points and evened things up at 27-27 and 28-28 before winning the final two points. BYU closed out the match with a .330 hitting percentage with each game at or above the .297 mark. The Cougars hit a match-high .353 in game two, following their game one .343 effort. TCU hit for a .155 average and gradually increased its game-by-game numbers as the match progressed. The Horned Frogs hit for their highest number in the third with a .184 figure. The Cougars were led by an 11-kill effort from Rachel Dyer and her .471 hitting percentage. Chelsea Goodman threw down 10 kills of her own, while adding eight digs and five assisted blocks. Lexi Patterson hit for the highest attacking percentage (.583) coming off of eight kills and one error in 12 attempts. Lauren Evans assisted on 26 kills, while three Cougars tied for the team-high in digs (Goodman, Evans and Janvier Beaumont). TCU's Talaya Whitfield registered the tournament's first double-double with help from her 10 kills and 14 digs. Both of Whitfield's numbers were tops in both categories for the Horned Frogs. Anna Vaughn tied Whitfield in the kill department with 10, as well. Nirelle Hampton assisted on a match-high 35 kills.
