#8 TCU Advances To Quarterfinal Action With 3-1 Win Over #9 Air Force The Horned Frogs will face #1 seed BYU Thursday.

For the Game 1 Photo Gallery, click here In the Mountain West Conference Volleyball Championship first round match, #8 seed TCU (16-17) defeated the #9 seed Air Force (5-28), 3-1. The Horned Frogs came back from a one-game deficit to overtake the Falcons with game scores of 23-30, 34-32, 30-23 and 30-17. With the victory, TCU advances to Thursday's 4 p.m. match to face the top-seed and 21st-ranked BYU Cougars. The win is also the first-ever for the Horned Frogs in MWC Volleyball Championship play. Air Force jumped out to a 1-0 lead thanks to its attackers hitting .333 (12-3-27) to TCU's .028 (11-10-36). The Horned Frogs turned things around in games two through four by slowly increasing their hitting numbers and by reducing their errors. The Falcons, on the other hand, went the opposite direction after their game one win. Air Force's hitting percentage dropped in each subsequent game. For the match, TCU hit .206 compared to Air Force's .190. The Horned Frogs notched two more kills (53 to 51) than their opponent. Each team tallied 25 errors. TCU was led by double-doubles from Talaya Whitfield (19 kills, 10 digs) and Nirelle Hampton (37 assists, 10 digs). Whitfield was one of two Horned Frogs in double-digits in the kill department as Anna Vaughn joined her with 11 of her own. Hampton's 37 assists were tops for her team, while Calli Corley notched 17 digs.
