SAN DIEGO - Colorado State defeated New Mexico (30-22, 30-24, 30-32, 30-18) in the first round of the Mountain West Conference Championship in San Diego today. With the win, the Rams improve to 25-4 on the year. The Lobos fall to 4-25. Colorado State hit .306 to UNM's .181 in the match.

All-MWC performer Tess Rogers had a match-high 18 kills for Colorado State, while Andreya Downs posted a .611 hitting percentage with 12 kills and just one error in 18 attempts.

Senior Anna Reines led New Mexico with 14 kills, while Chelsea Sondrup added 13. The Lobos outblocked the Rams 13.5 to 10.5, marking the third time this season UNM outblocked CSU. Freshman Jennifer Heasty totaled six blocks to lead New Mexico, while Katie Jo Shirley led CSU with seven blocks.

Colorado State tied a season high with 13 aces, led by Bri Frech with four. In three meetings vs. New Mexico this season, Frech had 14 aces.

In game one, Colorado State sophomore Tess Rogers hit .667 with four kills, while junior Becky Sarauer posted six kills. The Rams outhit the Lobos .357 to .171 in game one. The Rams controlled game two as well, outhitting UNM .500 to .038, but the Lobos rallied to take game three 32-30 as they hit .520 as a team. CSU rebounded to take game four 30-18 to advance to the MWC Tournament semifinals for the fifth straight year.
