Wyoming Volleyball Sweeps Season Series Over Air Force
Cowgirls win second straight match

The Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball Team (15-8 overall, 5-3 MW) won their second match in a row with a three set win (25-17, 27-25, 25-23) over the Air Force Falcons (3-18 overall, 0-8 MW) on Thursday night in Colorado Springs.
"We knew that Air Force would come out and give us all they had," said head coach Carrie Yerty. "Their outside hitters play tough and it was going to be a battle. The kids responded well, remained focused and closed it out when they needed to. Calli Miller was solid, along with Jodi Purdy. We battled all night and worked out of situations."
Two Cowgirls finished the night in double-figures led by Jodi Purdy. She recorded her 16th double-double of the season with 13 kills and 12 digs, while hitting .333 (13-4-27) for the match. Calli Miller added 11 kills and four blocks, and Reese Plante recorded seven total blocks. Wyoming hit .351 (44-10-97) for the match while out blocking Air Force 12-2.
Air Force was led by Cami Richan with a match high 17 kills and six digs. Victoria Foster added 11 kills for the Falcons. They hit .197 (43-20-117) for the match.
The Cowgirls began the match by taking an 8-5 advantage. Air Force scored the next four points to gain their first lead, 9-8. Wyoming scored the next three points to go ahead 11-9, which was answered with three straight by the Falcons to put them back up one, 12-11. A 7-2 run from the Cowgirls made it a four point set, 18-14. They would score the final seven of ten to close out the set, 25-17.
In the second set, Wyoming scored the first four of six to give them a small 4-2 lead. Air Force scored the next point and then the two teams traded scores. With the Cowgirls up by one 8-7, Air Force scored three straight to give them a two point advantage, 10-8. Wyoming answered with a 6-2 run to go up two, 14-12. The Falcons stormed back by scoring seven of nine to make the score 19-16. The Cowgirls tried to close the gap and evened it up at 19 all. Air Force responded with a small run to earn set point, 24-22. Wyoming re-grouped and scored the final five of six to win the second set, 27-25.
After the Falcons scored the first point of the third set, Wyoming went on a 9-3 run to make it 9-4. The Cowgirls would continue to lead by four to five points for a stretch of the set. Air Force would chip away at the lead and pull to within two, 18-16. After a Wyoming timeout, they ended the run by scoring three straight to give them a 21-16 lead. The Falcons made one final push, but the Cowgirls held on to win the set, 25-23
Wyoming wraps up their road swing against the Boise State Broncos, on Saturday, Oct. 22. The match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
