"We bounced back this morning against Drake with a well balanced attack and solid hitting percentage. Camille Coffman had a tremendous match and showed great leadership. Our serving and passing game put us in a great position to win."
In their second match of the day, the Cowgirls took on the IPFW Mastodons. In the first set the two teams traded scores until, the Cowgirls went on a small run to give them a 10-7 advantage. They continued to maintain a three to four point advantage until a 4-1 run by the Mastodons tied it up at 17 all. The Mastodons would answer back with four of the next five points to tie it up at 11. The Cowgirls scored the next point, but IPFW went on a 6-4 run to put them up two, 17-15. Unfortunately for Wyoming, they would only score two points the rest of the set as IPFW took the set 25-17.
The Mastodons carried their momentum into the third set as they jumped out to a 9-6 lead. Wyoming responded with a 4-1 run to tie it up at ten. The teams traded scores over the next several points until the Cowgirls took a small 16-14 lead. IPFW would retake the lead 17-16 and would never relinquish it. "Inconsistency to execute was a huge factor in our tournament losses this weekend," said head coach Carrie Yerty. "I have an incredible amount of faith in this team and that the Cowgirls will bounce back. We had moments that we played well and others that we lost focus. I give credit to both IPFW and Milwaukee. They stayed poised in the heat of the battle. I'm confident that we will be focused and ready to go next weekend."
Wyoming will host Nova KMB on Tuesday, Sept. 6 in an exhibition match, which will be followed by the UniWyo Cowgirl Classic, Sept. 9-10. They welcome Georgia State, Idaho State and Illinois State to Laramie.
