Megan Munce turned in her second straight double-double, finishing with 41 assists and 12 digs to go along with five kills and two blocks. Jordan Raines collected her second double-double of the season with 13 kills and 14 digs. Neither team could get control in the first set as each team was able to squelch any big rallies to keep the score close. TCU had the first run with three straight points to open up a 9-6 lead, but Alabama responded with a 4-0 run of its own to regain a 10-9 lead. Raines broke the tie with a kill and an attacking error by the Crimson Tide gave the Frogs a lead they would never relinquish.
Alabama kept the deficit manageable as it tied the set four times, the last at 19, but another hitting error put the Frogs back on top. Raines blasted a kill then teamed with Igodan on a denial in the middle to make it a 21-18 TCU lead. Hester and Sunstrum gave the Frogs set point with the third block of the set and Kirby locked up the 25-21 win with a kill.
It was all Horned Frogs in the second set as they took a 2-0 match lead. Sunstrum drilled a pair of kills while Igodan and Raines pitched in with kills of their own to open up a 4-0 advantage. After a 3-0 run by the Crimson Tide, TCU went on a devastating 8-1 run lead that put the set firmly in its control with a 12-4 lead. Igodan posted two kills, as did Hester to help spur the run.
The Frogs never let Alabama get on a roll as they maintained their sizable lead. Raines made it a 10-point lead, 20-10 and Maddy Brown put down two cross-court kills to make it a 23-14 contest. A service error gave TCU set point and Munce and Igodan punctuated the dominating 25-16 victory with a block on the outside.
Out of the intermission, Alabama rolled out to an early 5-2 lead, only to see TCU rally to eventually take a 14-11 lead. Munce gave the Frogs a 12-11 lead and a Joeckel ace punctuated the furious rally.
The Frogs maintained the lead, pushing the score to 22-20 on a series of errors by the Crimson Tide. The miscues prompted Alabama to use both of its timeouts. Alabama used the breaks to get regain its focus and, after staving off three match points by the Frogs, eventually rallied back to take a 29-27 set three win.
TCU quickly squelched any momentum Alabama gained in the third set as it raced out to a 9-2 lead. Igodan and Kirby were on fire at the net with a pair of blocks and three kills from Raines helped the Frogs extend their lead.
Hester came alive in the fourth set as she blasted five kills to help the Frogs build a 22-11 lead. Three kills from Sunstrum locked up the 25-15 set four victory.
The Horned Frogs, off to their best start since 2008, improved to 5-0 with the victory. They will wrap up play in the tournament Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. against Lamar.
