Rebels Swept In Final Match Of Opening Weekend
Stephanie Thelen led UNLV with 25 assists, eight digs in loss to UC Davis.

GREELEY, Colo. (UNLVRebels.com)Rebe - The UNLV Rebels (0-3) lost their third and final match of the Hampton Inn & Suites Classic Saturday afternoon against the UC Davis Aggies (2-0) by a 3-0 score (25-16, 25-22, 25-17) in Greeley, Colo. UNLV was led by an all-around effort from Stephanie Thelen, who had 25 assists, eight digs, three kills, three assisted blocks and two aces.
UCD out-hit UNLV .207 to .033 in the match. The Aggies threw down eight more kills (39-to-31) and registered 11 fewer errors (16-to-27) on 10 less swings (111-to-121) than the Rebels. UNLV topped out with a .135 hitting efficiency in the second set and hit .000 or lower in the remaining two frames. UCD, on the other hand, hit .128 or better in all three stanzas, including a .343 in the second.
The Rebels best effort came in the second set that featured six ties and three lead changes. UNLV held a one-point advantage at 18-17 before UCD rattled off four points to take possession of the set at 21-18. From that point forward, the teams split the remaining eight points with the Rebels pulling within one on three occasions, but were never able to pull even.
The first and third sets were nearly identical in that UCD pulled away with wins after holding 16-13 leads in both of them.
Elisa Brochado led the Rebels in kills for the second time this season with her output of nine against UCD. Brochado also chipped in three digs, one ace and one assisted block.
Daryn Glenn performed well on both sides of the net with 11 digs, seven kills, three assists and one assisted block.
Taylor Richard had 11 digs to tie Glenn for the team lead.
The Aggies offense was led by a 14-kill outing from Allison Whitson, who also had eight digs, four total blocks (two solo) and one assist.
Jenny Woolway dished out a match-high 31 assists and added seven digs, one kill and one assisted block.
Devon Damelio and Caroline Mercado were 1-2 in digs for UCD with 16 and 13, respectively. Damelio also had seven kills, six assisted blocks and three assists.
UNLV returns to action next Thursday with a pair of matches at the Texas Tech Invitational in Lubbock, Texas. The Rebels will play a pair that day with the first against Central Arkansas at 10:00 am CT (8:00 am PT) followed by a nightcap vs. Morehead State at 4:00 pm CT (2:00 pm PT).
