Air Force tennis player Shannon Young has been selected to receive a 2008-09 Scholar-Athlete Award from the Mountain West Conference. A league-record 548 student-athletes received the highest academic honor bestowed by the conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.

Young, who will be a sophomore this fall, recorded an outstanding 3.90 GPA during her first year at the Academy and is majoring in physics. She went 15-11 overall and 9-5 in dual singles matches as a freshman. She had a winning record at the Nos. 4, 5 and 6 spots.
