COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Three Mountain West Conference women's tennis student-athletes have been honored for their academic accomplishments in 2007-08, receiving spots on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams, which was announced earlier this week. Air Force's Erlyn Rudico and Colorado State's Hilary Tyler were named to the second team for District 7, while UNLV's Elena Gantcheva received second team accolades for District 8.

The first woman to be named MWC Tennis Player of the Year three times in a career, Gantcheva carries a 3.49 cumulative grade point average in hotel administration. She finished the 2007-08 season ranked No. 35 nationally in both singles and doubles, posting a 29-11 record in singles action and a 17-9 mark with teammate Kristina Nedeltcheva in doubles play.

Tyler, a native of Grand Junction, Colo., boasts a 3.88 GPA in speech communication. She garnered All-MWC honors this season after competing at the Nos. 1 and 2 singles positions and solely at No. 1 doubles, winning 14 singles matches and 11 doubles matches.

Rudico, a sophomore from Duncanville, Texas, sports a 3.26 GPA in biochemistry. She played the majority of the 2007-08 season at No. 1 doubles with teammate Christine Abayan, tying for the team lead with 11 doubles victories this season.

Voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the at-large teams represent the sports of tennis, swimming/diving, gymnastics, crew, skiing and water polo. Student-athletes must be in at least their second season, hold a minimum GPA of 3.20 and be a starter or important reserve to be eligible.
