MWC Sends Five Individuals and Three Doubles Teams to 2004 NCAA Tennis Championships

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Mountain West Conference will be represented by five individuals and three doubles teams at the 2004 NCAA Division I Tennis Championships.

For the men, MWC Player of the Year Divan Coetzee (No. 22 in the nation) of New Mexico, BYU's Erik Nyman (No. 45) and UNLV's Henner Nehles (No. 73) were selected to compete in the 64-player singles tournament. In the doubles competition, BYU's Erik Nyman and Nima Roshan will compete in the 32-team draw.

On the women's side, BYU's 36th-ranked Barbora Zahnova automatically qualified in the women's singles draw, and MWC Player of the Year Maja Kovacek (New Mexico), the No. 74 ranked player in the nation, received an at-large invitation. For the women's doubles, the UNM's 8th-ranked tandem of Maja Kovacek and Sandy Lukowski were one of two automatic qualifying duos out of the Central Region, while the at-large invite out of the Central Region went to No. 18 Barbora Zahnova and Sofia Holden of BYU.

The men's singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 26-31 at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla., following the conclusion of the team championship (May 22-25), while the women's singles and doubles will be hosted by the University of Georgia, May 24-29, at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., following the conclusion of the team championship (May 20-23).
