Five Teams To Represent MWC at NCAA Tennis Championships TCU earns bid to both men's women's event; BYU, New Mexico and San Diego State net women's bids
May 4, 2006 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - After capturing both the men's and women's Mountain West Conference Tournament championships, TCU will represent the MWC in both the men's and women's NCAA Tennis Championships. The MWC sent three additional teams, BYU, New Mexico and San Diego State, to the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship. The NCAA brackets were announced Wednesday, while singles and doubles entrants will be announced today. The 32nd-ranked TCU men's tennis team will face 36th-ranked San Diego in the opening round of NCAA Tournament play in Malibu, Calif., the NCAA announced Wednesday. The Frogs (17-9) and Toreros (15-6) will square off Saturday, May 13 (time to be determined), while host Pepperdine (30-2) will face Montana State (15-11). It marks the Frogs 16th-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and 21st overall. The 16th-ranked TCU (21-6) women's team will host Conference USA Champion Rice (13-12) on Friday, May 12, at 6 p.m. (CDT) in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Frogs are 21-11 all-time versus the Owls and posted a 6-1 victory in the last meeting between the schools on April 8, 2005. Big 12 runner-up Texas (17-11) and Arkansas (10-10) will square off in the first match of the day on May 12 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. BYU (20-7) faces Arizona (12-11) in first round women's action, while San Diego State (16-8) battles UCLA (13-6) and New Mexico (14-8) takes on Long Beach State (21-4). The Aztecs, making their 19th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament, will take on UCLA on Friday, May 12, at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center on the campus Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif. Host Pepperdine (20-3) faces Wichita State (17-7) in the first round. The 46th-ranked Lobos play the 49ers May 12 at USC. With a win New Mexico would face the winner of the Richmond (14-7) vs. Virginia Commonwealth (27-0) match on May 13. The 28th-ranked Cougars travel to Taube Tennis Center in Stanford, Calif., to face Arizona on May 12, while host Stanford (24-0) opens NCAA Tournament play vs. Quinnipiac (11-10).
