COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -¬ The San Diego State men's team and the BYU, UNLV and San Diego State women's teams will represent the Mountain West Conference at the NCAA Tennis Championships beginning May 13. The San Diego State men and BYU women earned an automatic berth by winning last week's MWC Tennis Championships, while the UNLV and San Diego State women earned at-large berths to the championship.

The Aztec men (17-5), ranked No. 35 in the nation, will face No. 24-ranked California (11-9) at the Los Angeles Tennis Center, May 13-14 or 14-15. If San Diego State wins its opening match, it will play the winner of the Manhattan/UCLA match. The Aztecs defeated No. 2 seed BYU, 4-2, at last week's MWC Championship and currently have a 13-match winning streak dating back to March 12.

The BYU women (21-3), currently ranked No. 21 in the nation, will host No. 36-ranked Sacramento State (23-4) in Provo, Friday, May 13. The winner of that match will play the winner of Niagara and No. 15 seed Baylor in Provo, Saturday, May 14. The Cougar women defeated No. 3 seed UNLV, 4-2, at last week's MWC Championship. BYU has won nine consecutive matches dating back to March 19.

UNLV (14-8), currently ranked No. 41 in the nation, earned an at-large bid after upsetting No. 2 seed New Mexico and advancing to the championship match at the MWC Tournament last week. The Lady Rebels will travel to Austin, Texas, and take on No. 31-ranked Texas A&M (15-12) at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center, May 13. The winner of that match will face the winner of Southern/No. 11 seed Texas, May 14. San Diego State (16-10), which is currently ranked No. 47, will travel to Los Angeles, Calif., and play Arizona State (10-7) at Marks Tennis Stadium, May 13. The Sun Devils are currently ranked No. 30 in the nation. The winner of that match will play the winner of Illinois-Chicago/No. 7 seed USC, Saturday, May 14.

Both the men's and women's championships are 64-team fields, single elimination tournaments. There are 16 first and second round sites in each tournament, with four teams at each site. Defending champion and No. 1-ranked Baylor is the top seed in the men's draw, while defending women's champion and No. 1-ranked Stanford is the top seed in the women's championship. The selections for the individual tournament will be released tomorrow afternoon.
