PROVO, Utah -- Sophomore Sofia Holden was named the Mountain West Conference's Player of the Week for her efforts in helping BYU win its third title in six years.

A native from Mexico City, Mexico, Holden won all three of her singles matches and both of her doubles matches for BYU this weekend. Holden defeated Sharon Marin of UNLV in the championship match, 7-6, 6-2, to give BYU the 3-2 boost against the Lady Rebels, setting up teammate Olga Boulytcheva's win at two singles for the Tournament Championship. She also clinched the winning point for BYU against San Diego State in the semifinals.

Holden also teamed up with Boulytcheva to win crucial doubles matches against Air Force and San Diego State. Those wins gave the Cougars the important doubles point and also put the duo at a perfect 16-0 on the year.

With the award, Holden joins Boulytcheva, Anastsia Sourkova and Lauren Jones as Cougars awarded MWC Player of the Week this year. Those four players were also named to the MWC All-Conference Singles Team last week.
