The Air Force women's tennis team closed out its 2001 season Saturday with a 4-0 victory over Wyoming in the seventh-place match at the Mountain West Conference Championships in Fort Collins, Colo.

The Falcons earned the doubles point with identical 8-3 victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Senior Kristel Chuntraruk and freshman Gina Black defeated Jenny Bowman and Angela Dossetor at No. 1, while junior Brooke Parsons and freshman Laura Nigro beat Wyoming's Sofi Espinosa and Paulina del Monte at the No. 2 spot. The No. 3 match was halted with Air Force leading 6-5.

In singles play, Air Force handily won matches at Nos. 2, 3 and 4. Chuntraruk won her final match as a Falcon, defeating Dossetor 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Nigro followed suit at No. 3, disposing of Espinosa 6-4, 6-2, and sophomore Heather Shelby wrapped it up for Air Force with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Toni Terhaar at No. 4. The other three matches were then halted.

Chuntraruk finished her career at Air Force with 40 career singles wins and 19 career doubles victories. Nigro, meanwhile, became the first Falcon in six years to post 40 overall victories in one season, and the first to do it at the Division I level. Nigro was 23-15 in singles play and 19-15 in doubles for 42 total victories. The last Air Force female to win 40 or more matches in one season was four-time All-American Laura Simmons, who won 66 (31 singles, 35 doubles) during the 1994-95 campaign when the Falcons competed in Division II.

Air Force finished its season with a 13-16 overall record.
