The Air Force women's tennis team looked to avenge a 4-3 regular season loss to UNLV Friday at the 2001 Mountain West Conference Tennis Championships in Fort Collins, Colo. Unfortunately, UNLV duplicated the outcome, defeating the Falcons, 4-3, to advance to the fifth-place match.

The Falcons, who will play in the seventh-place match on Saturday, put up a strong fight in doubles, but eventually succumbed as UNLV won the No. 1 match, 8-2, and came back from a 5-2 deficit at the No. 3 position to win, 9-7, and take the doubles point. AFA's Brooke Parsons and Laura Nigro were ahead 7-6 at No. 2 doubles when that match was halted.

Air Force won the first three singles matches that were completed. Gina Black defeated Urska Radanovic, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 singles, then Laura Nigro exited the court with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Marianne Bakken at No. 3. Heather Shelby gave the Falcons a 3-1 lead with a 7-6, 6-4 decision over Britta Gabl at the No. 4 spot.

UNLV won the other three matches, however, to clinch the team victory. The Rebels' Paulina Janus defeated Parsons, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles and Agnieszka Abram beat AFA's Kristel Chuntraruk, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 2 to tie the team match at 3-3. Amy Hadziosmanovic clinched the match for UNLV with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Kelli O'Bryant at No. 6 singles.

The Falcons will face eighth-seeded Wyoming in the seventh-place match on Saturday, April 28 at 1 p.m. Wyoming was defeated by Utah, 4-1, on Friday.
