Team-By-Team Notes Ranked No. 47 in the nation, BYU finished the regular-season 9-8 overall, but went 3-1 against Mtn. West teams. Senior Eline Chiew is among three players from the conference ranked in singles, coming in at No. 92 in the Apr. 26 edition. The Cougars last competed on Apr. 8th in Florida where they lost to No. 7 Florida and No. 35 Arkansas. BYU is the No. 3 seed in the tournament and opens play against No. 6 Colorado State. Riding a four match win streak into the tournament, Colorado State stands 10-9 overall. The Rams went 2-1 against Mtn. West teams, falling at Utah but defeating Air Force and Wyoming at home on Apr. 15 and 21st. CSU is the No. 6 seed in the championship and faces No. 3 BYU in the opening round. Ranked No. 46 in the nation, New Mexico went 14-9 overall during the regular-season and 4-1 against Mtn. West opponents. The Lobos went 6-9 against ranked teams while playing one of the toughest schedules in program history. Senior Ana Friganovic has played in the No. 1 singles slot, where she owns a 63-37 record, her entire career. Senior Dominika Gerwin owns the most wins on the team this season with 26 and was most impressive at home where she went 37-0 in her UNM career. UNM¹s last action was a 5-4 win at top-seeded San Diego State on Apr. 16. The Lobos earned the No. 2 seed in the championship and play No. 7 Wyoming in the first round. The highest ranked team in the conference and the No. 1 seed in the tournament, No. 31 San Diego State went 13-8 during the regular season. The Aztecs were 2-1 against Mtn. West teams, defeating BYU and UNLV, but falling to New Mexico. SDSU went 9-8 against ranked foes. The only team that had multiple players claim the weekly conference honors, three different SDSU players earned the award. SDSU plays Air Force in the first round. Listed No. 65 in the latest rankings, UNLV concluded the regular-season 12-9 overall and 2-3 against Mtn. West teams after defeating Wyoming, 7-2, on Apr. 25. A four time conference player of the week, senior Katarina Malec is the top ranked singles player at No. 28 this week and also teams with Marianne Bakken as the No. 18 doubles team in the nation. The No. 4-seeded Rebels open play against No. 5 Utah. Utah registered a 7-10 overall record during the regular season and went 3-3 against teams from the Mtn. West. A two-time player of the week, senior Megan Payne-Dorny jumped back into the national rankings at No. 63 after posting wins over BYU¹s Chiew, and at Florida and Florida State. The Utes earned the No. 5 seed and will face host UNLV in the opening round. Wyoming ended the regular-season facing three conference foes - Air Force (W, 5-4), CSU (L, 2-7) and UNLV (L, 2-7). The Cowgirls finished 8-11 overall and 1-4 against Mtn. West teams. Seeded No. 7 in the tournament, Wyoming plays No. 2 New Mexico in the first round.
