Mountain West Conference Announces 2010 Women's Tennis Championship Bracket Opening-round action begins Wednesday, April 28
April 26, 2010 COLORADO SPRING, Colo. - The 39th-ranked Utes of Utah enter the 2010 Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Championship as the No. 1 seed after posting a perfect 8-0 record (16-6 overall) en route to the Mountain West regular-season title. The MWC Championship will be held, April 28-May 1, at the Frank and Vicki Fertitta Tennis Complex on the UNLV campus in Las Vegas, Nev. Opening-round action begins Wednesday, April 28, with quarterfinals set to follow on Thursday, April 29. Semifinal play takes place on Friday, April 30 with the championship scheduled for Saturday, May 1, at 2 p.m. PT. No. 34 UNLV (20-3, 7-1 MWC) will be the No. 2 seed, while Wyoming (14-7, 5-3 MWC) captured the No. 3 seed after winning a head-to-head tiebreaker with BYU (9-12, 5-3). The 71st-ranked Cougars claimed the No. 4 spot, while No. 75 San Diego State (12-10, 4-4 MWC) will be the No. 5 seed after winning a head-to-head tiebreaker with No. 67 TCU (7-16, 4-4). The Horned Frogs will be the No. 6 seed and Air Force (16-11, 2-6 MWC) will be the No. 7 seed. Rounding out the bracket is No. 8 seed Colorado State (7-14, 1-7 MWC) and No. 9 seed New Mexico (1-20, 0-8 MWC). Action at the 2010 MWC Tennis Championship gets underway Wednesday, April 28 at 10 a.m. PT with an opening-round match between No. 8 Colorado State and No. 9 New Mexico. Quarterfinal action begins at 10 a.m. PT Thursday, April 29, with top seed Utah taking on the winner of the Colorado State-New Mexico match and No. 4 BYU squaring off with No. 5 San Diego State. Thursday's second set of quarterfinals is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. PT, featuring No. 2 UNLV vs. No. 7 Air Force and No. 3 Wyoming vs. No. 6 TCU. Both semifinals contests will be played at 2 p.m. PT on Friday, April 30, with the championship match set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 1.
