Women's Tennis All-Mountain West Conference Honors

BYU's Richardson and UNLV's Abram lead honors.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - All-conference honors for the 2001 season were announced at the Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Championship banquet in Fort Collins, Colo. BYU senior Jodi Richardson headlined the All-MWC team as the Player of the Year, while UNLV's Agnieszka Abram earned Freshman of the Year honors. Richardson, New Mexico's Natalia Alekhova and San Diego State's Whitney Wells and Katja Karrento were repeat all-conference performers after making the inaugural All-MWC squad in 2000.

The 2001 MWC Coach of the Year award will be announced at the conclusion of the 2001 MWC Women's Tennis Championships on Saturday, April 28. Following is the complete list of the 12-member singles team and the six doubles teams as selected by the MWC head coaches.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR--Richardson, a native of Canberra, Australia, posted a 6-1 record in conference play this season at the No. 1 singles position as she helped the Cougars go unbeaten in conference play en route to the regular season MWC title. She also teamed up with teammate Brooke Ferney for a 6-1 league mark in No. 1 doubles play. Richardson's overall singles record this season is 21-8.

FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR--Abram, from Warsaw, Poland, was 5-2 in MWC singles matches after winning five straight in the No. 2 spot to close out league play. She teamed with Paulina Janus for a 5-2 doubles record in the MWC and helped the Rebels to a third-place finish in the conference. Abram's overall singles record is 15-13.
